A Conversation with Dr. Cavaretta

Where did you grow up?

I grew up in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Tell us about your education and training.

I received an undergraduate degree from the University of Nevada Las Vegas in Cell and Molecular Biology with a minor in Chemistry.

What is your philosophy at your practice?

Our philosophy is to treat every person as an individual.  We understand that a lot of apprehension comes with having oral surgery, so our goal is to address those fears directly with our patients and do what we can to comfort and educate them.  We spare no expense by using the latest techniques, technology, and materials to perform successful surgeries.

Why did you become an oral surgeon?

I enjoy the wide scope of care that oral surgery offers. You can focus a practice on dental extractions and jaw reconstruction while also engaging in facial trauma and reconstruction. It is an amazing profession, with one foot in dentistry and the other in medicine and anesthesia.

What do you like most about being an oral surgeon?

I enjoy the personal interaction with the patients.  I never expected that getting to know people and their families, as well as their diverse backgrounds, would be one of the most rewarding aspects of my practice.

What methods did you employ to accomplish your goal of becoming a successful oral surgeon?

Meticulous attention to detail and patience to achieve the desired outcome.

What do you like to do in your leisure time when you are not operating or seeing patients?

I spend most of my free time dedicated to health and fitness and cooking great meals for my wife in the kitchen.

What epiphany did you experience while studying to become a surgeon that led you to choose oral surgery?

I always knew I wanted to be a surgeon as far back as high school. I had a great mentor at a very young age.

What setbacks or obstacles did you encounter while pursuing your goals?

Coming from a working-class family, I had to work a full-time job through both college and graduate school to be able to afford my training.  I am very happy for the experience, and I learned the value of hard work.

What three words best describe you?

Determined, meticulous, and empathetic.

What mentors do you currently have, or have you had, during your career that made a lasting impact on you?

When I was in high school, the oral surgeon who removed my wisdom teeth took me in and mentored me. He allowed me to watch his surgeries and left a lasting impression on me. He was an accomplished oral surgeon who was once the president of the national society.

How did your journey to be an oral surgeon change you internally?

I feel like I have become a better, more empathetic listener.

Why do patients choose you as their oral surgeon, and what makes you different and unique?

Patients choose us for their oral surgery needs above all else because we are leaders in our field when it comes to technology and advanced surgical procedures. We are compassionate and caring and take time to treat each patient as an individual.
