Your initial appointment will consist of a consultation visit, where we will explain your diagnosis and treatment options, and answer any questions that you may have. Although, in certain instances surgery can be performed on the same day, it is important to the Hill Country Oral Surgery Team that you feel the utmost comfort with the decision process and have time to evaluate our treatment plan. If you have a more complex medical history, we may need to discuss the treatment plan with your other healthcare providers in order to ensure your safety. A complex treatment plan may also require additional planning and coordination. In these instances we will need to have another appointment to complete your treatment.

Please assist us by providing the following information at the time of your consultation:

• Your surgical referral slip and any recent applicable x-rays from your dentist.

• A list of medications you are presently taking.

• A list of your medical doctors and phone numbers if you are under treatment.

• Insurance cards or policy information, if you have medical or dental insurance. This will save time at check in, and will allow us to help you process any claims.

IMPORTANT:

-All patients under the age of 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

-A preoperative consultation and physical examination is mandatory for patients who desire to undergo IV anesthesia for surgery. Please have nothing to eat or drink 8 hours prior to your surgery. You will also need an adult to drive you home.

-Please alert the office if you have a medical condition that may be of concern prior to surgery (i.e., diabetes, high blood pressure, artificial heart valves and joints, rheumatic fever, etc.) or if you are currently taking any medication (i.e., heart medications, aspirin, anticoagulant therapy, etc.).

-If you develop a heavy cough, congestion, or a respiratory tract infection prior to your surgery appointment, please contact the office as you may need to reschedule.

X-Rays

If your dentist or physician has taken x-rays within one year, you may request that they forward them to our office. If there is not enough time, please pick them up and bring them to our office. If additional films are necessary, they can be taken at our facility.

CT Scans

State-of- the-art, full-cranial cone-beam CT (computed tomography) technology provides highly accurate 3-D radiographic images for the diagnosis, planning, and treatment of oral surgery. This technology enhances our ability to visualize the surgery and the anatomical risks prior to the actual surgery. We have found this to be extremely beneficial on our reconstruction cases that involve bone grafting and the placement of implants. This technology can also provide a detailed view of the anatomical features around severely impacted teeth, such as canines or wisdom teeth. 3-D images enable a level of anatomical accuracy and patient care not possible with 2-D technologies. We have our own in office scanner that allows us to expedite the treatment process and preserve your time.
